  • So everyone goes on and on about how its so important to record your show into a portable digital audio recorder instead of a computer. I never really bought into the idea. Until… We landed a pretty big interview with a writer for a local newspaper here in Salt Lake City. It was a great [...]

I wonder if anyone has any tips to land interviews? We have found that Twitter is invaluable when it comes getting in contact with people we want to interview, but there have been way too many times we just can’t reach someone we really want to get. Any tricks of the trade or suggestions?

  • I heard about your show on the School of Podcasting. You’re doing a great job and have definitely found a way to get a lot of listeners right off the bat. I’m not a huge fan of the band but I do like your show.

  • Hi all. I launched my first podcast last weekend. It’s http://www.yesmusicpodcast.com and it’s about the progressive rock group, Yes – the clue is in the name, as they say;-) Feedback from folk in the niche has been really positive. I have found a small initial audience mainly via Twitter. My strategy was to create a [...]

  • Hi all and thanks for the discussion on mixers. I’m definitely going to get one at Christmas time. However, from a quick look around, the best value one seems to be the BEHRINGER XENYX 1204 USB. I’m worried though, is it cheapest because it’s rubbish? Also, thanks for featuring my previous question on album art [...]

    • Hi Kevin, dave has used Behringer products before and he thinks they’re pretty good. I’ll prompt him to join the discussion.

    • Hey Kevin thank for the question. I don’t have experience with the mixer that your referring to but I do have experience with an older anaologue version the Beringer 1000FX (pretty sure that’s the right model number) – nope it was not the most expensive – pretty cheap in fact and I used it for 6 years without missing a beat. In fact it is…[Read more]

      • Brilliant – thanks so much for this. It sounds like this model might be ideal for me. It’s got a lot more capacity than I need right now but I’d like to look to the future!

        So, cheers for that!!

        • No worries mate – also made some additional notes below. Dont worry about being more than you need. It looks like the entry for the USB mixers is the XENYX 1204USB.

Just a point of note: be careful with the models. The XENYX 1204USB DOES NOT HAVE FX BUILT IN.

The FX model – so the same model but with the FX built in is the XENYX X1204USB – note…[Read more]

      • Kevin, Had a look at the specs for the BEHRINGER XENYX 1204 USB and they look great. Stand outs for me are the features and it is what I would expect as far as yes it has everything you would want and more. I love the sliders. They give a really smooth transition when needed and have a great feel. There’s also the built in FX – not that I used it…[Read more]

        • Once again, that’s really, really helpful! It’s definitely on my Christmas list, then! Looks rather like a no-brainer. After all you guys have said and how I’m struggling to get decent sound without a mixer it certainly looks like the way to go. I’ll keep you posted and I imagine I’ll see a huge improvement in my sound!

          Thanks so much!

  • That is really cool, and I’m glad it worked for you. We do have a similar issue about playing sound bites… I guess there must be a solution to it but I’m not sure what. In Vista onwards – I think – there’s an option to choose the audio output per program. If you’re using [...]

Kevin, have you launched your podcast yet? I’d be interested in checking it out.

  • We recently did a 90 minute recording session using a Google+ Hangout. We were doing a “round table” discussion and since we are trying to use Skype as little as possible so we thought we’d give it a shot. Wow! It was really amazing. Even though the people we spoke with had basic headset type [...]

Thank you James. I’ll send you my login info. Let me give you a bit of background just to make sure we’re all on the same page. When we first started the show we submitted it to iTunes and got our iTunes page. Since I really don’t know much about RSS feeds, I just let [...]

  • We won’t be adding more to the feed because over time the feed becomes too large. The older ones are always available on the website at podcastersemporium.com

So in the analogue case, it’s simply a stereo feed from the computer into a line input in the mixer, and all of your channels are mixed to a stereo out on a external recorder. Right.. Duh! :-) I haven’t come across Pamela, well, not the program anyway. I did once have a girlfriend called [...]

Allen There is nothing wrong with the Powerpress plugin – we use it across LPN. It does sound like the person implementing your podcast does not know what he is doing. It also sounds like (but I haven’t confirmed this) that he’s created a duplicate entry for your show, but I can’t check it from [...]

Ok am I the only one who is totally confused about how to manage an iTunes page? The only way I know how to edit it is through podcasting plugins on WordPress. Forever I used podpress (and just put up with the lack of development which, by the way, has become much more frequent as [...]

The Podcasters’ Emporium brand has been orange since 2007 when I first created it – in fact the branding has not changed since the launch. We did deliberately want a colour that would stand out. Just out of interest, do you have a link to the colour research you were referring to? I’d love to [...]

  • Hey Peter, Thanks for listening to the show, and contributing to the conversation in the forums! Sometimes we’re not clear, and I’m glad people like you keep us honest! OK – the reasons why digital mixers work… and you’re right it’s hte USB interface. With an analog mixer setup – most people run a cable [...]

By the way, it was a great show. I’m finding the emporium to be most informative.
